ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Regional Airport would like to remind drone owners of a few rules and helpful resources as they prepare to take off.
Drone operators must notify the FAA that they will be flying a drone within five miles of Abilene Regional Airport or Dyess Air Force Base. To do so, call Abilene’s Air Traffic Control Tower at 325-201-9441.
The smartphone app B4UFLY is a great tool to help navigate where you can and cannot fly a drone.
Visit www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/ to learn about drone registration, FAA Airspace Restrictions, comprehensive drone operations rules, and other frequently asked questions.
It’s also worth noting the Federal Aviation Administration website generally encourages drone operators to all together avoid flying near airports because of other air traffic. It is very difficult for other aircraft to see and avoid a drone while flying. Drone operators are also responsible for any safety hazard their drone creates in an airport environment.
