REAL ID Is Now Required to Fly from ABI

As of May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers age 18 and older must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license—or another TSA-approved form of identification—to board domestic commercial flights, including those departing from Abilene Regional Airport (ABI).

What Is REAL ID?
REAL ID is a federal requirement that sets new security standards for state-issued identification. Compliant licenses and IDs are marked with a star in the top corner. These updated IDs help secure domestic air travel and access to certain federal facilities.

How Do I Know If I Have a REAL ID?
Check your driver’s license. If it has a star in the upper corner, it’s REAL ID-compliant. If not, you’ll need to bring an alternative form of acceptable identification—such as a valid U.S. passport or military ID—to board your flight.

What Happens If You Don’t Have the Right ID?
Travelers who arrive at the security checkpoint without a REAL ID or other TSA-accepted form of ID will not be allowed to board their flight. We strongly encourage all travelers to double-check their ID before coming to the airport.
